Volunteers can help ThaiCraft in the following ways
1. Operations and activities at ThaiCraft Fairs
- Customer Service (requirement: know/learn about ThaiCraft and the task to do)
- Checkout Assistants:
- Tagger – removing product price tags for cashier processing
- Bagger – putting purchased products into shopping bags
- Runner – taking customers’ full shopping baskets or big items to deposit area
- Queue manager – controlling flow of customers to checkout points
- General Assistants:
- Receptionist – managing fair entrance, counting customers, distributing baskets
- Bag Deposit minder – check belongings in/out and safeguard deposits
- Host service – assisting customers generally and keeping an eye on safety and security
- Product and equipment unpacking before and packing after each Fair. (on both fair day and the day before the fair)
- Other Services:
- Child minder – helping very young people in the Kids corner
- Photographer – taking pictures of Fair to be used for promotional/education, etc.
- Information attendant – disseminating information about ThaiCraft and Fair Trade
- Friendship Programme helper – applications and enquiries on ThaiCraft’s loyalty scheme
- Producer Group Assistance (requirement: know/learn about ThaiCraft, artisan group, and task)
- Product displays: designing displays and working with producer groups to set them up attractively before the Fair starts. Simple props may be provided if ordered in advance
- Translation and Selling: assistance with selling and promoting products. Help producers to communicate with customers by translation – allowing producers to speak for themselves whenever possible.
2. Work at ThaiCraft Office, home or elsewhere outside ThaiCraft Fairs (requirement: if possible, at least 3 months commitment: Full or Part time). Volunteers may undertake more than one task as described below:
- Japanese Translator: From English to Japanese written language. Banners, signs, information materials, including monthly ThaiCraft News. Page(s) for Website
- Other language Translators: From English to other world major languages (e.g. French, German, Chinese, Spanish, Arabic), or languages which are less common here but would help attract a significant group of potential customers (Korean, Scandinavian, Dutch, etc.). Also, Thai.
- Volunteer Coordinator: work with recruitment and communication with volunteers – either generally, or specifically with volunteers from one institution, club or nationality group.
- Product Tag Sorter: Sorting price tags as taken by cashiers at Fairs in order to prepare payment accounts to producer groups. Analysis work on sales records to signal marketing trends, etc.
- Public Relations (Talks & events): Willing to give presentations to groups in clubs, societies, etc. about ThaiCraft work and Fair Trade principles. Creating and maintaining contacts with press and media, feeding them with interesting stories and ideas that promote ThaiCraft and its producers.
- Writer: Using creative writing skills to create interesting articles, information materials, blogs, and catchy signs.
- Graphic Designer: Signs, information materials, newsletter layouts, etc. All in accordance with ThaiCraft’s CI (corporate image) guidelines.
- Event Designer: Assist in developing and putting into place a layout plan for the salesroom.
- Internet Developer: Maintain ThaiCraft website and blogging sites, including creating new pages and posting new materials – constant updating.
- Product selection: Helping to choose suitable products for different types of market outlet as part of a small team of designers and consumers. Make recommendations for product adaptation and improvements.
- Fair Trade teacher: Using classroom teaching skills in schools and universities to introduce and create awareness in ethical business and Fair Trade.
- Professional Consulting: business, marketing, design, branding, etc. for both ThaiCraft itself and/or its producer groups.
3. Helping the Artisan Groups (requirement: at least 3 months commitment; need to work closely with artisans – often in their villages. Some long-distance travel may be needed)
